On the 16 and 17 October 2021, for the International Day of Eradication of Poverty, during my art residence at Berlin, ufaFabrik, during two days I organized the Happening The Guten Tag Call, performing 8 hours online by zoom, with the possibility to be interrupted if someone was connecting. I tried to highlight the overdose of the digital world and the need to maintain some social achievements as the maximum of 8 hours per journey that however, become asocial and harder to keep, or even impossible, when translated to the digital.
I offered as awards for participating some books and a map of Mallorca. During my sessions, I launched certain messages in Instagram and by mail to have feedback, with feedback from several countries.
I profited one hour of my time for reading in a paper book in silence, Dante's book The Divine Comedy, in Italian, in Berlin.
One of the main questions I had during this happening it was finding someone who could teach me how to play online in the piano of the studio room the melody of the Casio VL-1 keyboards, in two days (or some of my favourite classics), or if someone could play it for me, but all people was busy in the weekend. In the studio room there was a beautiful piano Hamburg-Berlin, that however, is often absent in the South of Europe. I made an intervention on the piano to highlight the economic unequality North-South. It was quite luxurious to own a piano in the 80s in Spain. So we had a toy keyboard Casio VL-1 as present for Christmas, not a piano. It was also a symbol of women not as performers or creators, but merely as practitioners, that I rejected.
I was playing ping-pong on the piano, using the piano as a table for having a desert, I kept the books tided in the piano, I put a bench of flowers on it, and I painted my nails, as protest for the stereotyped gender roles assigned to me as woman, until someone from Japan answered to my question: Try to use tutorials to play the piano, you can be able to play it yourself, or at the end of your travel, you can come and I play it for you. I followed then the youtube tutorials of Casio VL-1 making several impros with the different tune melodies. Finally, I was able to play the beginning of the Waltz of Flowers, from the Nutcracker, my favourite childhood music, in the piano, without knowing chords. Then I stopped the happening when I arrived to my maximum journey of 8 hours.
I was questioning the relationship between performer and audience. Where is the theatre and the agora, to debate on public issues, that are been substituted by the oikos, the private and economic reasons behind this digital transformation.
